On 9 May, Prof. Yi-Qing Ni, Dr. E Dong, and Dr. Yang Lu from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University were invited to attend the 4th Innovation Forum on Wind Disaster Mitigation and Wind Energy Utilization in Liyang, Jiangsu.

In the morning session, Prof. Yi-Qing Ni delivered an invited keynote presentation entitled “Evolution of Tropical Storm Risks in Coastal Cities under Climate Change and Implications for Disaster Resilience.” The presentation began with a global perspective, examining the fundamental patterns and underlying mechanisms of tropical storm evolution under climate change. Prof. Ni then introduced the team’s latest regional-scale research progress, including the development of a refined urban-scale meteorological observation and forecasting system based on advanced meteorological LiDAR monitoring systems and large-scale meteorological prediction models, as well as a building-scale real-time monitoring and early-warning system for wind-induced structural responses. The presentation further highlighted how these systems can support the safety and resilience of coastal urban infrastructure.

In the afternoon session, Dr. E Dong delivered a session presentation entitled “Mechanisms and Risk Impacts of the Inland Extension of Typhoon Rainfall under Climate Warming.” His presentation focused on the spatial evolution of typhoon rainfall under global climate change, the underlying physical mechanisms, and the associated disaster risks posed to coastal communities.
